Job: Solution Architect – IBM Sterling Order Management System (Sterling OMS)

The Solution Architect will be IBM Sterling Order Management’s solution expert for all client engagements.  The Architect provides product architecture and technical expertise to the client and to the IBM Sterling Order Management project team.  The Architect must have a complete understanding of the client’s business processes as well as the technical requirements for successful implementation of IBM Sterling Order Management’s software.  The Architect ensures the overall quality of the system architecture design, application design, development, testing, and deployment.  This includes ensuring that the solution design and delivery meet the customer’s business requirements.  The Architect also mentors the functional and technical consultants on the project team.

Essential Job Functions

  • Participate in the Consulting Services sales process, including preparing accurate estimates for the Statement of Work (SOW)
  • Identify project resource requirements and required skills for project success
  • Define the solution, technical design for solution hardware and software, hardware and software configurations, product extensions, interfaces, etc.
  • Provide product implementation expertise including system architecture design, application functionality and design, development, testing, and deployment
  • Communicate all project issues related to system architecture design, application design, development, testing, and deployment
  • Review and delivering on-time and high quality project deliverables
  • Conduct QA reviews of custom developed code to ensure overall quality and compliance with the IBM Sterling Order Management development framework
  • Ensure thorough solution testing and deployment, including System Test, User Acceptance Test, and Performance Test
  • Audit the results of the testing and advise the team on any potential go-live issues or risks
  • Facilitate the project completion process. This includes transition to Technical Support, Sunset Review, etc.
  • Perform solution architecture audits
  • Drive the estimate effort for Statements of Work related to Customer Enhancement Services
  • Participate in recruitment and office development activities
  • Mentor the functional and technical consultants on an engagement
  • Act as the client liaison with Product Management / Engineering for developing custom client solutions
  • Maintain IBM Sterling Order Management solutions and best practices for design and delivery
  • Provide feedback to Product Management / Engineering on product roadmap
  • Participate in Engineering design reviews for new product versions and design future product functionality in active engagements
  • Provide understanding of system constraints and performance implications and characterize the solution holistically

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge in value chain management (supply chain and demand chain) with emphasis on order fulfillment and order management.
  • Experience with application development and system architecture design; working knowledge of Unix (HP, IBM, Sun, Red Hat LINUX) and Windows, C++, Java, and XML
  • Experience working with IBM complementary products:  BEA Weblogic, IBM WebSphere, WebMethods, Cognos, JMS compliant queues (MSMQ, WebLogic JMS)
  • Experience working with product that touch IBM Sterling Order Management’s integrations points:  CRM products, ERP products, EAI tools, merchandising systems, other WMS products, point of sale products, payment processing applications, tax calculation packages, shipping applications, etc.
  • Experience with object oriented programming languages such as Java and C++
  • Deep knowledge of Java programming and related technologies
  • Experience in XML, XML parsers, and XSL
  • Experience working with Oracle, DB2 and SQL Server databases:  database sizing, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
  • Ability to travel 30%
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of software product issues
  • Experience managing relationships with clients at the senior technical management level
  • Experience delivering enterprise solution implementations

Minimum Qualifications

  • EDUCATION:  Technical degree (Computer Science or Engineering) preferred; Advanced degree is a plus

  • EXPERIENCE:  10+ years of  Supply Chain System implementations, system integration and consulting experience with 2+ years of lead architect of enterprise application implementations

Desirable:

  • Java and IBM Sterling certification is a definite plus
